NSCDC Arrests 45-year-old Suspect For Stealing Railway Track Accessoires In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly vandalizing railway tracks.

It was learnt that NSCDC personnel also recovered stolen railway materials worth millions of naira from the suspect.

Commandant, Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde disclosed this while briefing journalists in Bauchi.

He said the arrest and recovery were part of the Corps’ ongoing efforts to safeguard critical national infrastructure.

“On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., following credible intelligence from the DSS Alkaleri Division, our operatives responded swiftly to a report of railway track vandalism at New Gwaram, along Gombe Road,” Oyerinde stated.

Though the suspects had fled before officers arrived, the team recovered a white Peugeot J5 loaded with vandalized railway components — including 53 sleepers with bolts and nuts, 14 fish plates, and 20 bags of charcoal.

“Further operations in Cross Tasha, Faruqu, and Taliyaje areas of Tubule Ward in Kirfi LGA led to the arrest of one Usman Jungudo.

“The suspect was apprehended for unlawfully dismantling and selling railway parts.

“During interrogation, he was said to have confessed to the crime, and several items were recovered and secured at the state headquarters,” he said.

Commandant Oyerinde commended his officers for their swift and effective response, noting that such dedication was key to the success of the operation.

“This is a clear warning — we will not tolerate vandalism of public assets in Bauchi State. Offenders will face the full force of the law,” he declared.

He added that investigations were ongoing and the suspect would be prosecuted accordingly.

Oyerinde also urged residents to support the NSCDC by reporting suspicious activities, adding that “timely and accurate information is vital in combating crime and protecting our communities.”
