End Of An Era: Tyson Fury Hangs His Gloves And Bids Goodbye To Boxing
The former heavyweight champion, Fury has retired from boxing two months after his second defeat to the current heavyweight champion Aleksandr Usyk.
The Gypsy King took to his media to announce his retirement. In the post captioning a video on his social channels, Fury wrote:
"Thanks, it's been a blast. Thanks to everyone who helped out along the way! Happy New Year. Jesus is king now & forever."
"Hi, everybody; I'm going to make this short and sweet: I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing. It's been a blast. I've loved every single minute of and I'm going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask."
His retirement has seemed not to be taken seriously because he has, on two different occasions in the past, announced his retirement, but a few months afterward, he was seen again in the ring making some points on his opponents.
His initial retirement announcement came in November 2013. 'The Gypsy King' cut a frustrated figure after his fight with David Haye fell through for a second time. He announced:
"Hi everyone, I have officially retired from boxing," he posted on X (then Twitter). "There's too many bent [crooked] people in the sport. They will have to f--- someone else. Goodbye boxing." To a great surprise, three months after took on a fight with Joey Abell and won.
His second retirement announcement was in 2022 after he defeated Dillian Whyte at Wembley with a sixth-round finish in 2022. He mentioned that he had made a promise to his wife Paris to retire after besting Whyte, stating:
"I'm a two-time undisputed world champion. [I have] £150m in the bank and nothing to prove to anybody."
Significantly, Tyson's recent announcement of his retirement has been speculated to be his wife's, Paris, influence. Paris has requested that Fury quit boxing while noting that he has barely had time with the family.
Paris Fury's heartbreaking comment
Speaking to iFL TV, she explained:
"I think after the last fight, everything that went on previously, personally in our lives, and then only had the outcome last time, I just think he decided this on his own. And I had to support him in it.
"He didn't want to be involved in family life so he's cut himself off from us for the last few months. He's put himself in a serious, serious condition."
Moreover, Tyson's retirement from boxing will put an end to the possibility of seeing a mega match happen between him and his rival Anthony Joshua, the two-time heavyweight champion.
Anthony Joshua is desperately craving a bout with Tyson Fury, despite his neglecting his rematch with his conqueror, Daniel Dubois.
Will Fury come out of retirement soon, or stay away forever from boxing?
