Anthony Joshua's Promoter Reacts To Tyson Fury's Retirement From Boxing

Amid the anticipated boxing biggest match, which is partly nipped in the bud following Fury's rejection, Eddie Hearn, the promoter of the Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, has swiftly added his scent on the retirement of one of the boxing's most respected boxer, Tyson Fury.

Tyson Fury announced his retirement today, Monday, Jan 13, via social media after his defeat to Aleksandr Usyk. Fury was defeated twice in his two-time bout with Usyk in 2024.

However, The post captioning a video on his social channels, Fury wrote: "Thanks it's been a blast. Thanks to everyone who helped out along the way! Happy New Year. Jesus is king now & forever."

"Hi, everybody; I'm going to make this short and sweet: I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing. It's been a blast. I've loved every single minute of and I'm going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask."

Upon Fury's retirement, Eddie Hearn remarked during an interview:

"If you ever want to come back and get the max, you have to retire first, haven’t you? Someone then has to bring you out of retirement.

‘If that’s the last we see of Tyson Fury then good luck to him. I doubt it personally but whatever he chooses to do, much respect to him.

‘I think he’ll want to fight again; I think he will get bored,d and he will know the British public wants to see the AJ fight.

‘My belief is we’ll see him in the ring again. If not then good luck to the man.’

Eddie Hearn, like Joshua, has always wanted the match with Fury to happen in no long time. So, when Eddie Hearn was asked if he was disappointed by Fury’s announcement, Hearn added: ‘No, no. I don’t get disappointed. What will be will be.

‘Some things in life are completely out of your hands. You can’t get disappointed."

It is over three years now that the proposed match between the aforementioned boxers has been in the news, but unprecedented phenomena such as the unexpected defeat suffered by Joshua, which discredited him from a match to hold with Fury, and a prior scheduled match with another rated champion amidst the proposed match have hindered the bout from happening.

‘If he wants to retire there’s nothing we can do about it. If he’s up for the fight – the biggest fight in the sport – then great. My gut feeling is we’ll see it.

‘AJ wants that fight. Maybe Fury hasn’t got it in him anymore and hasn’t got the heart for it. If he hasn’t then he should retire.’ Hearn says further.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren told BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘I’ve said all along that there is no way I will be trying to in any way influence him.

‘If that's what he wants to do, that’s great. He’s done everything he can do. Probably been the best British heavyweight of his generation by far.

‘Two-time world champion, two closely fought fights against Usyk. He’s got plenty of money, got his wits about him, got a lovely family. God bless him, enjoy.

"He’s become a world star. If you look at some of the fights he’s had, he’s not been in one fight that hasn’t been exciting. Very, very exciting fights.

‘Big heart, got off the floor when he’s been knocked down by big punches and come back to win fights. He’s been something special.’

The world still expects Fury to come off his retirement as he has done in the past to approve a fight call from Joshua.
