"EFCC Operatives Break Into Comedian’s Home, Assault Pregnant Wife" — Lawyer Stan Alieke Demands Justice
Popular Nigerian lawyer Stan Alieke has shared a harrowing account of brutality by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against his client.
In a post on his Instagram page, Alieke revealed how operatives of the anti-graft agency forcefully broke into the home of a well-known comedian, destroying his gate, walls, doors, and windows to gain entry. The comedian, fearing they were armed robbers, initially refused to open the door, prompting the operatives to resort to violent means.
Alieke further detailed how the EFCC officers manhandled the comedian’s pregnant wife, causing her to fall and hit her stomach, while also assaulting everyone present.
According to him, after the comedian pleaded with the operatives and showed them his Instagram page and videos to prove he was not involved in fraud, they began apologizing and begged him not to publicize the incident.
Expressing outrage, Alieke called on the EFCC to end such brutal tactics, emphasizing that many have suffered similar mistreatment at the hands of the agency’s operatives.
Stan Alieke wrote on Instagram:
"A popular comedian who is a client had his house broken into by some operatives of the EFCC in February. The EFCC guys broke down his gate & tore down the house wall, his door & windows just to gain entrance. He thought they were armed robbers, hence why he refused to open the door for them & they had to force their way in by destroying some part of his house. Once they entered, they pushed down his pregnant wife who fell & hit her stomach on the floor as they beat up everyone in sight including him & the wife.
"When they disclosed that they were operatives of the EFCC & not @rmed robbers as he initially thought, he started begging them that he is a popular comedian and not a Yahoo boy. They demanded he show them his IG page or his videos to back up his claim, once they saw his videos, they then recognized him & started apologizing to him asking him not to take the incident online.
"As for the EFCC, they only told him sorry and told him that he should understand. No compensation whatsoever. We've written to the ethics panel of the EFCC & they have been playing games, trying to cover this up.
"This is one of the other numerous cases where EFCC operatives do break into people's apartments in a Gestapo style & beat up the occupants & if they see they are not Yahoo boys, they will only say sorry and go & their victim will go and treat themselves and fix their destroyed property.
"This has to stop. The EFCC chairman needs to put his boys on a leash. We have also submitted a petition to the NA to exercise their oversight function & curtail the excesses of the EFCC operatives if the EFCC heads cannot admonish their field operatives. It's embarrassing that an investigative organization like EFCC is not always acting on credible intel. EFCC is not just corrupt but some of the operatives have gone rogue.
"As for the client, the case is currently in court and the EFCC must pay for this. This has really gotten out of hand.
"The wife is still in the hospital from that experience, and their two-year-old son had convulsions & other series of attacks from that experience. Even when he had raised money to fix the apartment, his son & wife still get flashbacks whenever they enter the house so he had to look for another apartment & abandon the house for now.
"This really has to stop. Many person have suffered this in the hands of @officialefcc rogue operatives."
