Dangote Group Reacts To Fire Outbreak At Lagos Refinery, Says Facility Still Operational

The management of Dangote Refinery has confirmed the fire incident that occurred on Wednesday at the multi-billion-dollar facility in the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos.

The Nigerian Voice earlier reported the fire outbreak at the facility but could not immediately ascertain its cause.

A video of the fire incident shared on several social media platforms showed a thick dark smoke rising from what appears to be one of the tanks in the facility.

In statement issued shortly after the incident, Anthony Chiejina, Group Head of Corporate Communications Dangote Group Nigeria, said, “We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26thof June.

“There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty.”

Meanwhile, unconfirmed information disclosed that the fire started around midnight based on a leak on one of the pipes - "Pipe A13" before snowballing into a bigger inferno.

Dangote Oil Refinery is a 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) integrated refinery project.

Owned by Dangote Group, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery was inaugurated on the 22nd of May 2023 in Lekki, Nigeria.
