Two Children Killed, Others Injured As Deadly Explosion Rock Kaduna
Two minors have reportedly been killed following a tragic explosion in Abakpa area of Kaduna State.
It was learnt that three other persons were injured in the the explosion which occurred around 10:15 am, just two kilometers from the old Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) site.
Reports indicated the blast tore through the neighborhood without warning. The deceased children were dentified as Imam, aged 13, and Nasrin, aged six.
One resident, who witnessed the incident, said Imam was still breathing after the explosion. He said the boy was rushed to the hospital but died before arrival.
Another witness described hearing a loud bang followed by thick smoke and screams. Parents and relatives scrambled to locate their children as chaos erupted in the neighborhood.
Three other residents sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the explosion.
Security agencies responded promptly and cordoned off the area. Operatives from the police and civil defense deployed bomb disposal experts to the site.
Investigators are combing through the debris to establish what triggered the blast.
As of press time, no arrests have been made.
Military sources confirmed that the blast site lies outside NDA territory.
Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) also visited the scene and assisted victims.
