McClung Makes it a Three-peat!
Mac McClung, who plays primarily in the NBA's developmental G League and has seen only five minutes of NBA action this season, won his third consecutive NBA Slam Dunk contest at All-Star weekend in San Francisco. The 26-year-old Orlando Magic player achieved perfect 50-point scores on all four of his dunks.
McClung's winning dunks were a display of athleticism and creativity. They included a reverse dunk after jumping over a car parked under the basket, with someone holding the ball through the sunroof. He also executed a dunk after jumping over a standing man and completing a mid-air turn. Another impressive dunk involved him catching one ball passed by a man spinning on a hoverboard, while simultaneously dunking a second ball held by a man on a ladder. His title-clinching dunk was over 6ft 11in Cleveland Cavaliers player Evan Mobley, who was standing on a small platform.
"Truly, stuff like this doesn't happen without standing on the shoulders of a lot of people," McClung told TNT after defeating San Antonio Spurs' Stephon Castle in the final round. He expressed gratitude for the help he received, including access to gyms large enough to accommodate a car and the use of the car itself.
McClung, the G League's MVP last season, has played in just five NBA games throughout his career, representing the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Magic.
